Over the past decade, the MFA’s NGEN community has raised $250,000 for youth charities through the annual NGEN Charity Cup, making a positive impact on society and demonstrating their commitment to being true Changers.
This year’s NGEN Charity Cup – the ninth time the event was held since first launching in 2014 – raised a record-breaking $41,063 for UnLtd charity partner, Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD).
More than 400 NGENers in 58 teams nationally took to the courts for three energetic dodgeball tournaments in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Before they set out to eliminate their competition collectively they raised funds through bake sales, barbecues and by selling raffle tickets for prizes generously donated by industry supporters which included: a chopper ride over Sydney harbour by the Australian Traffic Network; corporate tickets at the MCG by News Corp Australia; tickets to Mamma Mia the Musical by Ladbible Australia; VIP tickets to Australia vs West Indies at the Gabba by the Seven Network, and many more.
oOh!Media, who raised $6,977, took home a new award for the highest fundraisers nationally.
The aim of the NGEN Charity Cup is to raise much-needed funds for youth charities as well as provide an opportunity for members of NGEN – a community for those with less than five years’ experience in the media industry – to come together, have fun, give back and network with their peers.
Teams from both media agencies and media owners battled it out for the top spot in three categories.

In their own words
Here’s what three of our NGENers had to say about this year’s NGEN Charity Cup:
Sarah Harris, SCA
“Charity Cup Brisbane was really fun, it was nice being able to see so many people! This was the first year SCA pulled together two teams, and I was both very excited and proud to see so many of my colleagues wanting to participate. The DJ from MAAD was also a great addition, as he brought a new level of energy to the event – something we definitely needed after a tiring game of dodgeball. SCA held a bake sale to fundraise, which was a huge success - our NGENers each contributed a plate of treats and the office loved it!”
Lane Watson, OMD
"NGEN Charity Cup goes beyond dodging balls and fostering friendly competition among publisher and agency partners. Where the real contest lies is the fundraising leaderboard and for our UnLtd Charity, Musicians Making a Difference. Through some healthy competition, collectively we smashed our donation record of $40,000 and had a fun day too – a win-win!"
Darshan Pawani, Starcom
“NGEN Charity Cup was a fun evening raising funds for our UnLtd Charity partner - MMAD (Musicians Making a Difference) which exists to change young lives through the power of music and mentoring. Starcom is proud to have supported this initiative and helped contribute to this record donation of $41,063. Playing dodgeball with heart and might, making a difference, one throw at a time.”
